American rapper and businessman, Kanye West took to social media for very specific recruitment requirement for Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on Twitter.
“I’m topping 5 billion and I’m looking for a new trusted Christian CFO,” tweeted West.
However, the rapper did not disclose if this role is for his presidential campaign, one of his music or fashion ventures. Representatives for West have also not yet responded on the CFO vacancy.
A CFO is the senior executive responsible for managing the financial actions of a company. The CFO’s duties include tracking cash flow, financial planning, analysing the company’s financial strengths and weaknesses, proposing corrective actions and for ensuring that the company’s financial reports are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
In response to the tweet, the reply thread was filled with hundreds, of candidates who would like to take over the coveted position, including Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy and Liberty University president Jerry Falwell. The post garnered more than 116,000 likes, 11,000 retweets and comments. Others criticized the rapper for his unorthodox recruitment method and pointed out that his desire for a Christian CFO could be against anti-discrimination laws.
“Questions about an applicant’s religious affiliation or beliefs (unless the religion is a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ)), are generally viewed as non job-related and problematic under federal law,”sates a web page from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. But, if an employer whose purpose and character is primarily religious is permitted to lean towards hiring persons of the same religion. This could be the be the case for West although due to the absence of details on the CFO opening the issue is up for debate.
In recent years, West has rebranded himself as a Christian artist, touring the US and leding Sunday services shortly after he released his latest album, “Jesus Is King.”
